Thanks for taking the time to read this, looking forward to getting input from people with some real knowledge! At this stage, it very valuable to me.

Or should I stick to the plan and go for what I know, probably one of the above listed receivers? College student so the $$ I would save on a transceiver unit in the long term would be a considerable factor. I didn't know anything about it because I was not looking for a transceiver but when I read up it seems this is a really good deal and since I plan on getting my general class at some point, I was wondering, should I dive into everything at once and go for it? I know very little about transceivers because I always assumed the TX would come later. which he hardly used before deciding on a different hobby (I have seen it and wouldn't be able to tell if it was used). * Question: To my surprise, a friend of a friend got into SW for a bit and came across a new-condition Ten-Tex Triton IV/544 with power supply, box, manual, covers, etc.

More pragmatically (modern), I have also been considering the Radio Shack Realistic DX-394, which I hear is a great receiver for the $$ with some mods. The two I have mostly been considering are the Drake R-4A and the Drake 2B, the later of which especially IMO just looks so aesthetically stunning for some reason. I've been looking for a proper table-top communications receiver which have always struck my fancy despite everything that comes with newer SDR's that have largely replaced them. Studying for technician & plan to get a general class eventually at some point. Although this site currently describes how this DDS VFO can improve the Ten-Tec Omni D series of PTO controlled radios, it may be readily installed in other Ten-Tec radios including the Corsair I and Corsair II, the Triton, the Delta, the Argosy II and the Digital Century 21 as these radios are all equipped with a factory stock digital display. Enjoy reading here, always something for me to learn as I just got into amateur radio, so far just SWL on a handheld, what is basically a TexSun P元60, except with DSP & SSB.
